MIDWINTER BREAK

2/15/2018

The only assignment you have for midwinter break is an *optional* extra credit assignment for Black History Month. If you'd like to complete the assignment, send me a message on REMIND and I will assign you a person to research. A description of the assignment can be found below:

Black History Month Extra Credit assignment: Black LGBTQ+ People
Black History Month is a time to celebrate the ways in which Black Americans (who have historically been erased from the dominant narrative of our country) have enhanced and empowered themselves and their people. However, even within that framework of promoting marginalized voices, there are huge swaths of Black Americans who are sadly missing from the picture. Black LGBTQ+ people suffer an additional level of oppression due to their identities, and BHM lacks the stories and voices of the Black LGBTQ+ community.

Your assignment is to do a short, biographical project on a Black LGBTQ+ person and add their names and accomplishments to your knowledge of Black History! You will be assigned a person, and your task is to complete the following:
  • Create a short biography that includes:
    • Name of person
    • Birthplace and date of person
    • Why the person is famous
    • Three interesting facts about the person
    • A picture (printed or illustrated) of the person
  • A journal that includes:
    • At least three journal entries based on important moments from your figure's life.
    • Should be written from THEIR perspective; write as if you are the person you are researching.

In addition, if you did not complete your rhetorical analysis paragraph for Cassius' speech, the assignment can be found below. Please be sure to complete this assignment over the break if you did not do so in class, or if you were absent on 2/15. More info below:

Have an awesome break!!!
