  3. What are the alternate perspectives about Johns Hopkins hospital? Which perspective does Skloot validate in this chapter?

In addition, your work on Ch. 13 (Important Discoveries Thanks to HeLa) is due any time on or before Friday 11/17. Instructions, sample work and details below:
Directions:
  1. Decide which discovery/advancement you want to work on.
  2. Decide how you want to break the process into 4 steps. Choose quotes, decide on illustrations, etc.
  3. SKETCH IN PENCIL FIRST! No extra handouts.
  4. Be sure to CITE your evidence correctly.
  5. When explaining the evidence in your own words, be sure to offer some insight into the process/idea/discovery that is being discussed.
  6. Complete your work! Make it colorful and informative.​

  1. Explain how a neutralization test is used to determine a vaccine’s efficacy.
  2. Explain what growing in suspension is and how HeLa is involved.
  3. Explain how a virus reproduces and show why/how HeLa cells are particularly useful to study viruses.
  4. Demonstrate how/why freezing cells was an important scientific discovery.
  5. Explain how HeLa helped to standardize tissue culture.
  6. Show how HeLa cells led to new understanding of genetics/genetic diseases.
  7. Your own choice (check with a teacher first!)
