Hero's Journey: Independent Work

9/21/2018

0 Comments

Due Monday 9/24

YOUR INDEPENDENT TASK:
Write 2 short paragraphs proving how EACH of the two quotes you contributed to your group’s poster fits into its stage in Junior’s Hero’s Journey (one paragraph for each of the two stages + two quotes you contributed to your group).

  1. Your CLAIM: 1-2 sentences introducing the place, person, or event that you’ve identified as being part of this particular stage.
  2. CONTEXT: Use one of the methods we went over in class to appropriately contextualize the quote. Think about what your reader will need to know to understand the quote.
  3. QUOTE: remember to use quotation marks and a citation (author's last name + page #)
  4. EXPLANATION: using your notes on the Hero’s Journey stages, explain how this quote shows Junior experiencing one particular stage of the Hero’s Journey.

Please complete the independent portion of your Hero's Journey project over the weekend. Your grade for the project is broken down as follows:
  • Hero's Journey Poster --> 50%
  • Mini-Paragraphs --> 40%
  • Group + Self Reflection --> 10%

**DUE Wednesday September 12**

STEP 1:  Write a letter introducing yourself to Ms. Hunter (+ Ms. Superville if you're in G block!). The letter may be typed or hand-written.
Your letter should be 1 – 2 pages long, and it should begin with a salutation and end with an appropriate closing. (10 points)
Things to include in your letter:
  • Your family background (Where are you from? Who are the important figures in your life?)
  • Your educational background (Who are you as a student?)
  • Your passions/interests/skills/hobbies/languages (What do you enjoy? What are you good at?)
  • Your personality (What kind of person are you?)
  • Your expectations this year for our class, for yourself, and for Ms. Hunter/Ms. Superville
*Let your writing flow naturally, using paragraphs to move from one topic or idea to the next.
This letter does not have to be formal in tone, like an essay, but it IS the first piece of your writing that I will have the chance to read, so be thoughtful about your word choice and grammar, and look over your work before handing it in. I’m looking forward to learning about you! - Ms. Hunter

STEP 2: Sign up for REMIND, an app that lets us stay in touch throughout the year. (3 points)

***NOTE:
  • Wednesday is also the LAST day to hand in your The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian summer assignment for credit!
