DUE MONDAY 10/17/16

After reading AND annotating the article “Henrietta Lacks’ ‘Immortal’ Cells”, answer the following questions in your notebook using complete sentences.

1.What differentiates HeLa cells from other human cells?
2.Henrietta’s doctor removed her cancer tissue during an autopsy and didn’t tell her family. Do you think he should have asked her family for permission? Why or why not?
3.How would you define “informed consent”?
4.How would you define “bioethics”? Even if you don’t know the meaning of the word, based on what it looks and sounds like, what might it mean?

You must READ and ANNOTATE the article to get full homework credit.
  • It is not enough to just underline and highlight!
  • Make sure that you are recording your thoughts, ideas and questions in the margins of the article.

Don't forget! Spiderman warned you that there could be a quiz on the information we've been learning about cancer on Monday... make sure that you study from your notes! You will not have to use information from the presentations for the quiz. If anything, there may be some general information in a bonus question.
